Title: 2001 Club Championships

After an enjoyable club championships over two weeks where individual and team trophies were won,
congratulations to the merit award winners, individual winners, team winners and well done to
our up and coming 'Most Improved Player' for 2001 Matthew Steward and 'Judoka of the Year' Katiy
Hughes. Katiy battled against a severe wrist injury and finally reached her goal - Junior Brown
Belt.

Just a reminder that the Senior World Championships are being held in Germany at the end of July.

Title: Eventful weekend

Stanway gained medals/trophies from Norfolk & Essex over the weekend.
On Saturday 7th July three competitors went to Dereham and returned with medals.
Jack Knightley SILVER / Matthew Pascoe BRONZE / Adam Cook BRONZE.
On Sunday 8th July the Stanway team, mostly in heavier than their usual weight group, were one
point away from the final but fought very hard and won the Bronze -
NADIA MANDARY / MATTHEW STEWARD / JACK KNIGHTLEY / STEPHEN CLARKE / DAVID ENGLISH.
Well done to them all - a good standard of judo and a very enjoyable event.

satellite. British Eurosport will be covering the European Championships on Friday 18th May at
17.30 and 21.00.

Title: A.J.A. National (Closed) Championships - 25.3.01

Tremendous effort from the Junior Judokas from the club who attended a long and tiring day at
Birmingham - only one win away from a trophy for most of them. Their performance and attitude
at this event was of a very high standard - well done! But congratulations to our only Senior
participant Philip Nowell who is Stanway Judo Club's -73 kgs Kyu Grade NATIONAL 2001 CHAMPION
and has earned a place to represent Great Britain later in the year.

Title: Millennium Judo Competition

Three of our judokas attended a very large 'Millennium' judo competition in London recently and
performed extremely well under difficult conditions. They returned with a Bronze medal.
Very well done! A word of warning to any judoka attending events - Some officials are very hot
on penalising if you adjust your gi (suit) without permission. This happened more than once.

Title: Competition Success throughout 2000

Whilst participation in competitive events is not compulsory, it is encouraged,
so as to further the educational progress by using techniques against judoka with whom you do
not normally train. This widens the experience and knowledge of the art. During last year,
Stanway Judo Club achieved many competition successes, including five Area Champions.
Well done to everyone involved.

Title: Judoka of the Year

At our recent Club Championships, Jason Crowhurst was named as Stanway Judo Club's 'Judoka of the
Year' for the year 2000. He gained this prestigious award for his commitment in competitions,
his help in instructing other judoka and through his hard competitive judo at an international
event, representing Great Britain in Holland.
